Roma

Ahh....Rome...not too much needs to be said. The Eternal City! My parents, Bryan AKA Scoop, and I took the Roma Express from Civitavecchia into Rome for a day of sightseeing while Kevin, Julie, and Erin took a guided tour to hit the major spots in Rome. After getting to Rome, we took a Hop on Hop off tour and visited Trevi Fountain, McDonalds, the Colosseum, and of course Vatican City and St. Peter’s Square....we even saw the Pope saying Mass on the big screen! I had already seen the major sites thanks to John Karavage, Cindy Hitz, and the 80 students/parents, and other chaperones from PHS a few years ago, so it was nice to spend some time just walking this incredible city. I am always amazed at how these buildings have survived the years. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Tomorrow is Naples...the only thing on our list...pizza from the home of pizza! It will be nice to have a relaxing day after 2 very hot and busy ones.

Ahhh, Paris.....we arrived safely this AM and enjoyed a bit of sightseeing and then took a Seine River dinner cruise. Tomorrow, we have a full day of sightseeing planned including lunch at the Eiffel Tour, The dinner tonight consisted of a tomato pesto something or other I was not willing to try, main entree was duck....which I tried, but am currently eating a Big Mac (darn Americans!) while watching the World Cup, and a fruit tart for dessert. Erin enjoyed the meal and Bryan loved the duck (he thinks it was French Chicken), he enjoyed his own, and most of Julie and mine! Tomorrow I will give some history of this city. I am continuing to be amazed at how old these landmarks are and how great shape they remain. In our “throw away” society, it’s nice to see buildings which have sustained throughout the ages.

At sea

Great weather today, thought I would just post some pictures. Tomorrow...off to Paris  This ship has piano steps! Plays a tune whether you walk up or down the stairs.  Tons of desserts for the sweet tooth...or in my case, sweet teeth! This is the suite desk for suite guests. The rest of the ship was full...our area was beautiful,  no trouble finding a seat...and we had our own hot tub. Suites are the way to go!  3 generations of McCarthy men  Bryan makes friends everywhere we go, our head waiter Cherylie and assistant Ahmad  The only thing disappointing to Bryan, the carrousel was broken all week. ☹️ This ship has a robot bar (called bionic) and another bar called rising tide...it stops at different floors. Erin and Julie make friends easily too My mom trying to stay in touch via email while relaxing on the balcony.

Yikes, long and hot day...but wow...amazing tour and sites. We started out by visiting the Louvre. According to our guide if you spent 30 seconds in front of each piece it would take you 100 days...all day everyday to see it all. It is the largest museum in the world. Of course we saw some beautiful pieces of art. Then we took a boat to the Eiffel Tower for lunch. The tower too 2 years to construct from 1887-1889. It is equal to an 81 story building...and bot is it impressive. I walked up to the 2nd floor from the 1st and my calves were in spasm!  Then we went and toured Notre Dame.  Then...free time. Shortly after leaving The Louvre, Bryan said he needed to get his picture taken with the purple cup...we had no idea what he meant, but we went back...and, it is fitting this is the last part of the blog....here is it...what we needed to go back for...
